Tablet Rewards Update – FAQs

Octopus is updating the tablet rewards program to focus on Uber JourneyTV trips, delivering greater value for every ride.

Starting January 6, 2026, here’s what is changing:

  • All tablet rewards will apply exclusively to Uber rides connected to JourneyTV

  • Per-trip rate is increasing from 1 point to 1.5 points

  • The classic Octopus experience will remain available for entertainment only and will no longer earn point rewards for gameplay or other activity

  • How does the updated points system work?
    • When you complete an Uber JourneyTV trip* with your tablet, you’ll earn 1.5 points – a 50% increase from the previous 1 point. 250 points = $25, just like before.

      You will no longer earn .5 game points or points for non-Uber JourneyTV trips.

      *Your Uber account must be linked with your Octopus account to complete Uber JourneyTV trips.

  • Why are you only awarding points for Uber JourneyTV trips?

    • Octopus has always focused on creating incredible experiences for drivers, and JourneyTV is the next exciting step. These changes also ensure that we maintain a strong, sustainable business model, supporting drivers and passengers in the long term.

      Drivers have also asked for an exact points-tracking system instead of an estimate. Awarding points only for Uber JourneyTV trips allows us to provide accurate, real-time points tracking.

  • Why are you removing points credits for riders playing games?

    • JourneyTV emphasizes on-tablet tipping, a personalized interface, and live ETAs for riders. We want to ensure you earn the maximum rewards without missing out on any game-related earnings.

  • What will happen on non-Uber JourneyTV trips?

    • Your tablet will continue to display the Octopus Experience, which includes fun games, live sports scores, and other interactive content.

  • How will this affect my Octopus earnings?

    • If you complete JourneyTV trips with your tablet, you’ll earn an increased amount from Octopus per trip.

      If your Octopus account is not linked with Uber, you will not earn from driving with the tablet. If you complete non-Uber rideshare trips (i.e. Lyft), you will not earn from driving with the tablet. You’ll still be able to offer the Octopus Experience for your riders and access the Octopus community’s exclusive competitions and prizes.

  • I don’t want to link my Uber account with Octopus. Can I still earn Octopus points?

    • No. If your Octopus account is not linked with Uber, you will not earn from driving with the tablet.

  • I only drive for Lyft. Can I still earn Octopus points?

    • No. If you complete non-Uber rideshare trips (i.e. Lyft), you will not earn from driving with the tablet.

  • I’m not sure this change works for me. What are my options?

    • We understand you are running a business and have to make the best decision for you and your riders. If you do not want to continue driving with Octopus, we simply ask that you return your tablet free of charge using the instructions here: https://playoctopus.com/help/tablet-return/

  • How can I link my Uber account with Octopus?

  • Where can I learn more about the Uber JourneyTV experience?

  • I think I’m missing out on points in this new system. What can I check?

    • We recommend checking your points again in a week or two, since this is a major update for everyone. If you think you’re missing out on points after two weeks, we recommend that you check the below:

      -You have linked your active Uber account. You can find easy instructions on linking your Uber account with Octopus here: https://playoctopus.com/help/rideshare-account-link/
      -Your tablet is plugged in and powered on when completing trips
      -Your tablet is properly mounted on the tablet headrest
      -Your tablet is in the same vehicle as your phone
