Given TLC regulations in New York City, we do not air advertising content, but instead show entertainment content, including interactive games, sports scores, and videos, as well as public service announcements and public health and safety messages.
Thanks to the support of drivers like you, the New York City Council recently passed legislation approving in-car advertising tablets, and the TLC is expected to introduce updated regulations in the next couple of months. We are expecting to have some good news to share soon!
Sincerely,
The Octopus Team

No, Octopus is not airing advertising content in NYC. As an independent rideshare driver, you have the right to feature amenities that make you extra money and passengers enjoy such as the Octopus entertainment tablet.
As mentioned earlier in the FAQs, the NYC Council recently passed legislation approving in-car advertising tablets, and we are expecting to have positive news to share in the coming months.
Do I still get paid if I keep using my tablet?
Yes! You will still continue accruing points and payouts as normal from Octopus at this time.
Will Uber or Lyft penalize me?
Uber and Lyft continue to be supportive of drivers’ freedom to pursue additional revenue streams and amenities that improve the rider experience.
I am not a licensed TLC driver. Does this affect me?
No. These new regulations only affect TLC-licensed drivers and vehicles.
If I decide to return my tablet, how can I do that?
If you would like to return your tablet, please go to your driver dashboard, click the “account status” tab, and generate a pre-paid return label. Securely package up your device in the box it came in (or any other box in your home; we are unable to reimburse for packaging costs), and drop off at a nearby FedEx location. Need help?
